KEYNOTE AND PLENARY SPEAKERS

Dato' Dr. Ir. Mohd Abdul Karim Bin Abdullah is the CEO of Serba Dinamik Holdings Berhad. Dato' Karim holds a Bachelor Defree in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He obtained an Honorary PhD in Industrial Engineering from InterAmerican University, USA in 2009 and a PhD in Entrepreneurship from Golden State University, USA in 2012. He is a member of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia since 1994, a registered member of the Board of Engineers Malaysia since 1996 and a member of the Asean Federation of Engineering Organisation since 2002. Dato' Karim illustrious engineering career spanning 30 years started with Asean Bintulu Fertilizer Sdn Bhd (1988) as a Mechanical Engineer. Later he was appointed as the Coordinator for the Ammonia and Rotary 5th turnaround Preparation team (1990) and as a Rotating Equipment Area Engineer (1991). In 1993, he formed Serba Dinamik and assumed the position as the Group Chief Executive Officer.

Prof. Mohd Nasir Tamin earned his doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics from the University of Rhode Island, USA in 1997. He has been with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia since 1984. He had his fair share of administrative positions as the Head of the Applied Mechanics Department, Head of the Materials Engineering Department, Director of UTM Center for Composites, and the Deputy Dean (Research and Innovation) of the faculty. He is currently leading his research team with 11 doctoral candidates, a post-doctoral researcher, and a project manager at the Computational Solid Mechanics Laboratory (CSMLab) UTM, which he founded in 2006. Prof. Tamin’s research team activities focus on the development of constitutive and damage models for ductile metals and fibrous composite laminates. He leads his research team on few successful research collaborations with industries including Intel Technology on the development of a validated methodology for reliability prediction of microelectronic BGA packages and through-silicon via (TSV) interconnects, with Kiswire (Korea) for fatigue life improvement of steel wire ropes, and with Airbus and Aerospace Malaysia Innovation Center (AMIC) for damage detection in FRP composite laminates using the digital image correlation technique (DIC). Prof. Tamin has been invited as a visiting researcher at Sophia University, Tokyo (Japan), a visiting professor at the Institut Supérieur de l’Automobile et des Transport, Nevers (France) and Dongguk University, Seoul (Korea), and currently a visiting research professor at the University of Southampton (Malaysia Campus). He is keen in promoting the university-industry collaboration, and the academic and research collaboration among colleagues across the globe.


Dr. Yang Wenming is currently an Associate Professor with tenure in the department of Mechanical Engineering, National University of Singapore. His research interests include: development of Lower Temperature Combustion (LTC) Technologies, fuel design, combustion and emissions control of internal combustion engines fueled by various fuels, microscale combustion and micro power generators. He has authored/co-authored more than 280 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and conferences, of which, more than 210 papers are SCI index, and most of his papers are published in top 10% journals. His papers have been cited by more than 7500 times with a H-index of 47. He is currently the Principal Investigator or Co-PI for 14 competitive research grants funded by National Funding Agencies and Ministry of Education of Singapore, worth more than $30 million US dollars. He has won a series of awards including 4 times of scientific progress award (2nd prize) by the Ministry of Education of China and the Society of Mechanical Engineering of China; two papers was awarded the best paper by Applied Energy (Elsevier) in 2014 and 2016 respectively; He is also the regular reviewer for a lot of peer-reviewed reputable journals such as Applied Energy, Energy Conversion and Management, Fuel, Progress in Energy and Combustion Sciences etc.


Dr. Chong Wen Tong is presently working in University of Malaya as Associate Professor and  Head of Centre for Energy Sciences. He is the Editorial Board Member of two SCI-Q1 journal (top 10%), i.e. the International Journal of Energy Research (IJER) and International Journal of Precision Engineering and Manufacturing-Green Technology (IJPEM-GT). He has co-authored >110 ISI technical articles (h-index = 27). He is also the recipient of the University of Malaya Excellence Award 2016, Excellent Lecturer (Science & Technology). He has secured more than RM 6 million research grants, completed 18 research projects (renewable energy & green technology) as principal investigator and successfully supervised >35 post-graduate graduates. He has filed 12 intellectual property rights and won the First Prize of National Intellectual Property Award 2016 (Cross-Axis-Wind-Turbine). He is   graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, UTM (Mechanical-Aeronautics). He was awarded the Best Student Award for his academic achievement; and obtained his Ph.D. from the same university. Dr. Chong joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering, UM (# 33, QS-Subjects-Ranking-2016/2017) after spending 10 years in various industries. Before joining UM, he was the Head of Technology and Mechanical Team in Dyson Malaysia, and has been responsible for research, design and development works on vacuum cleaner, hand dryer and bladeless fan. He is a Chartered Engineer registered by the Engineering Council (UK). He served as the Programme Coordinator (Mechanical) for about 5 years (2011-2015) and teaches Renewable Energy at the M.Eng. level in UM. He is the Conference Chair of International Conference on Sustainable Energy and Green Technology (SEGT 2018 & 2019). 


Dr. Suvash C. Saha is working at the University of Technology Sydney, Sydney, Australia as a Senior Lecturer of Mechanical Engineering. He has also worked as a postdoctoral research fellow for more than 6 years at the School of Chemistry, Physics and Mechanical Engineering of Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia. Dr. Saha received his PhD in Computational Fluid Dynamics applications to heat transfer in buildings from the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences of James Cook University, Australia in 2009. His current research interests are:; Thermal storage using Phase Change Materials (PCM); Solar thermal energy technology; Natural convection heat transfer in buildings and other confined geometries; Scale analysis for the transient flow; Computational biomechanical engineering etc. Dr. Saha has more than 160 publications including 104 journal papers mostly published in high impact journals. Total citations of Dr. Saha is 1318 (Google Scholar) and 872 (Scopus) with h-Index of 19 (Google Scholar) and 16 (Scopus). He has more than $1.2m funding including 2 ARC (Australian Research Council) Linkage grants and is involved in two National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) funding.

Dr. Ir. Wahyudi Sutopo, ST., M.Si, IPM is hold an engineering professional degree (Ir) from Study Program of Professional Engineer – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) at 2019. He also registered as a Professional Engineer (IPM – Insinyur Profesional Madya) with The Institution of Engineers Indonesia – IEI since 2016 (https://pii.or.id). He obtained his Doctorate in the field of Industrial Engineering and Management (Dr) from Institut Teknologi Bandung (Indonesia)at 2011, Master of Science in Management (M.Si) from Universitas Indonesia at 2004 and Bachelor of Engineering in Industrial Engineering (ST) from Institut Teknologi Bandung at 1999. He currently is the Head of Department of Industrial Engineering, UNS, FY 2015-2019. In UNS, he is Asset Auditor for Internal Audit Unit (FY 2013-now) and Coordinator of Industrial Engineering and Techno-Economy (RITE) Research Group (FY 2016-now). He also as General Chairman of BKSTI (Agency for Cooperation of Higher Education of Industrial Engineering in Indonesia) FY 2017-2020. His research interests are Logistics & Supply Chain Management, Engineering Economy & Cost Analysis, and Technology Commercialization. He has published 3 monographs and 7 book chapters. He has published a number of research articles in reputed journal and conference proceedings, and obtained more than 30 research grants.


Dr. Sujan Debnath (CEng MIMechE) is presently working in Curtin University Malaysia campus as Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering. He had joined Curtin University Malaysia in October 2008 as a Senior Lecturer and promoted to Associate Professor in 2013. He had served as the HOD of Mechanical Engineering from October 2014 to December 2017 in Curtin Malaysia. Dr. Sujan obtained his PhD Degree from the University of Science Malaysia in 2006 majoring applied mechanics and heat transfer with specific research focuses on interfacial thermal mismatch stress analysis in electronic packaging. Over the years, he has been working in the area of Polymer Green Composite Materials, Nano Polymer Composite, Composite Materials using Bio-Waste (Green Material), Advanced/Sustainable Metal Cutting, Thermal Management in Electronic Packaging, Origami inspired Folding Technique and Folding Design, Engineering Sustainable Development/Life Cycle Analysis. Dr. Sujan has more than 80 publications in reputable international journals and conference proceedings. Dr. Sujan has supervised a number of PhD and Masters students and successfully completed a number of Govt. or Industry funded research projects in Curtin University. He also delivered a number of keynote or plenary speeches in different international and national conferences.
