The Department of Standards Malaysia, SIRIM Berhad and the Civil & Structural Engineering Technical Division of IEM are jointly organizing a one-day seminar on “Adopting Eurocodes Eurocodes EC0 (Basic of structural design), EC1 (Actions on structures) and EC2 (Design of concrete structures) in Malaysia”.

The one-day seminar aims in providing participants with an overall view on Eurocodes EC0, EC1 and EC2 which are the design standards of the concrete building structures.  Topics of the fundamental concrete structure behaviour of flexure, shear and compression will be presented in detail. In addition, the Code requirement of concrete durability as well as the Malaysian treatment of Eurocodes will be highlighted.

Engineers, consultants, contractors, manufactures, researchers, lecturers, project managers, students, entrepreneurs members of professional associations and interested parties from public and private sectors are all encouraged to attend the seminar. The tournament will be held at KBL Lutong, on
- 21st February 2009 (8am till 4pm)
- 22nd February 2009 (8am till 2pm)
- 28th February 2009 (8am till 4pm) – Final Matches

The tournament is held for Doubles (32 teams), Mixed Doubles (16 teams) and Singles (16 players). The registration fee will be RM 45 nett for Doubles and Mixed Doubles teams, and RM 25 for Singles players, payable at the IEM Miri branch office.

SYNOPSIS

Project Management (PM) is a systematic application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to manage project activities in order to meet or exceed stake-holder’s needs and expectations. In a fast-moving business environment, studies have shown that the success rate of projects will improve and the ROI increases when a holistic and systematic approach to project management is adopted, especially for projects which are complex and dynamic.

Member engineers of IEM carry out many different types of projects in different environment, but their underlying goal always remain the same: to complete the projects on time, within budget and scope, and with an acceptable quality. To achieve this goal, it is not enough for the project engineers/ managers to merely have the hard technical skills and tools, but of paramount importance, they should also be equipped with people skills that are so essential for leading, motivating and managing project team members to carry out their tasks effectively.

This intensive 3-day course serves to address specifically the essential training needs of project managers/engineers/executives with special emphasis on an integrated approach to acquiring the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills of Project Management, including the hands-on applications of Microsoft Project software tool.

This programme is specially designed in respect to the Code of Ethics in which engineers have to oblige. This is to ensure that the Engineering Professionalism in our country is enhanced and as competent as that of their counterpart globally. This programme will critically explain the role of engineers in facing crucial situation at their workplace. Besides that, the programme will also touch on the most appropriate way of dealing with difficult scenario that arise at workplace which may have some conflicts of engineering ethical. Since the conflict of interests between organization and engineers varies from one to another, cases and facts from real job situation will be highlighted and discussed, which covers six elements of engineering aspects.

The aim of this seminar is to promote Engineering as a profession to the public at large. Some of the topics which will be presented during the seminar include “The Roles of Engineers in Industry”, “Starting Your Career as an Engineer”, and “The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM)”. These topics will benefit students who may be considering Engineering as a career option. This seminar would be a good opportunity for students to find out about what engineers do on a daily basis, as well as steps towards achieving their goal as a professional engineer.

This seminar is organized by YES, which serves as a link between student and graduate engineers to the more established professional engineers within the IEM, cultivating and exposing student and graduate engineers to the professional engineering world.
