Technical Visit to Bakun Dam Bintulu

Age     : 21 years old and above.

The Bakun Dam is an embankment dam located in Sarawak, Malaysia on the Balui River. The dam was built by Malaysia-China Hydro JV consortium, led by Sime Engineering Berhad of Malaysia (a subsidiary of Sime Darby and Sinohydro Corporation of China. It has the second tallest concrete-faced rockfill dam in the world. This project commenced in 1997 and officially started operation in 2011 under 100% government-owned company, Sarawak Hidro. The Bakun dam generates 2,400 megawatts (MW) of electricity for Sarawak Energy, which is wholly owned by the State Government of Sarawak.


Gather at Miri Express Bus Terminal, Pujut Corner.

Depart from Miri Express Bus Terminal to Bakun Dam.
11:00am -1:30pm
Presentation on construction milestones and daily operation.
1:30pm – 5:00pm
Visit Bakun dam site.
5:00pm – 8:00pm
Depart from Bakun Dam to Bintulu
Check in at 101 Hotel, Bintulu.
