Background
“Ex” areas are known by different names such as “Hazardous Locations” or “Hazardous Areas” and relate to areas where the presence of flammable liquids, vapours, gases or combustible dusts are likely to occur in quantities sufficient to cause a fire or explosion.
It is a requirement that industries processing flammable liquids, vapours, gases or combustible dust must use certified equipment in the facilities. Such equipment is rated as “Ex” certified equipment.
Where do you commonly find “Ex” certified equipment?
- “Ex” certified equipment is found in areas such as:
- Automotive refueling stations or petrol stations
- Oil refineries, rigs and processing plants
- Chemical processing plants
- Printing industries, paper and textiles
- Hospital operating theatres
- Aircraft refueling and hangars
- Surface coating industries
- Underground coalmines
- Sewerage treatment plants
- Gas pipelines and distribution centers
- Grain handling and storage
- Woodworking areas
- Sugar refineries

Biodata of Speaker
Ir. Hj Halim Hafiz graduated from the Bradford University, UK in 1993 in Degree of Electrical and Electronic with Management. Has more than 32 years working experience in Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) responsible in the area of Electrical Engineering covering design, fabrication, installation, commissioning, maintenance and operations.
He is Petronas Ex Institutionalise Capability Group Leader and Trainer in the area of Hazardous Area Classification and Ex Equipment Selection
Currently Malaysian Technical Committee for Electrical Equipment in Explosive atmosphere (TCEAEA) and also the working group leader for Maintenance of IEC60079-0 and IEC60079-10.
Appointed as Malaysian expert and representative in the International WG37 of Technical Committee 3 responsible in review and maintaining of Ex Electrical Machine related IEC60079 series since 1st March 06 by Malaysian Department of Standard.
Recently, Internationally recognised as one of IECEx CoPC assessor on behalf of Sirim QS and recipient of award from MOSTI for his national contribution in Ex related standards and initiatives.
Important Notes
FULL PAYMENT must be settled before commencement of the event, otherwise participants will not be allowed to enter the hall. If a place is reserved and the intended participant fails to attend the course, the fee is to be settled in full. If the participant failed to attend the course, the fee paid is non-refundable. IEM reserve the right to reject any L/O not in accordance with these instructions. Registration fee includes lecture notes, refreshment and lunch.
The Organizing Committee reserves the right to cancel, alter, or change the program due to unforeseen circumstances. Every effort will be made to inform the registered participants of any changes. In view of the limited places available, intending participants are advised to send their registrations as early as possible so as to avoid disappointment.
