Engineer Your Career Talk 2012
On Saturday, 3rd March 2012, the Young Engineers Section of The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Miri Branch had successfully organized a half day event titled Engineer Your Career Talk 2012. Around 120 National Service Students from all around Malaysia made it to the occasion which was sponsored by Curtin Consultancy Services with SMART Partnership with Pustaka Miri. The aim was to reach out and encourage school students into considering engineering as a career and on the relevance of The IEM to such an undertaking.
The event began with the Organizing Chairman, Engr. Tiang Kwong Hwo, introducing the invited guest speakers comprising of Professional Engineers, graduates and student engineers from IEM to the audience. Among them were: IEM Miri Branch Chairman, Ir. Goh Soon Boon (Civil Engineering), Ir. Ting Shi Chiang (Electrical Engineering), Ir. Paul Chiew (Telecommunication Engineering), Ir. Molly Sim (Project Engineering) and Chow Yuet Hong (Mechanical Engineering). Beside talks on the individual engineering field, there was also a talk on the IEM (Ir. Dr. Lau Hieng Ho) as well as on Studying Engineering (Engr. Dr. Tang Fu Ee). Additionally, there was also a session from Sdri. Conie Choo, a second year engineering student and the Vice-Chairperson of Curtin University Engineering Club, who shared her own experiences in studying engineering. The interactive sharing session by the speakers gave opportunity tostudents to ask about a career in the engineering field.
Volunteers from Young Engineers Section and Curtin University Engineering Club (CUTEC) coordinated the event throughout the event effortlessly. At the closing of the event, YES presented souvenirs to each of the speakers and Pustaka Miri. The event ended at 12 noon with a group photo.
